The report highlights the trends in FDI in COMESA Member States and also discusses the emerging policy issues for the COMESA Common Investment Area and the dynamics of the investment policy in the light of the proposed COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Free Trade Area.
The development of statistics on foreign investment and activities of transnational corporations was initiated in conjunction with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in late 2008. This has focused on capacity building in COMESA Member States on the best practice for compilation of FDI statistics. This report is a collaborative effort of the COMESA Statistics Unit and the Division of Investment Promotion and Private Sector Development.
COMESA acknowledges the critical role of the European Union through the Regional Integration Support Program (RISP) that has provided financial and technical support for the development of FDI statistics in the region.
